CARE Feral Cat Trap and Return
Colorado Animal Rescue has a limited number of live animal traps, used specifically for the humane trapping of feral cats as a part of a trap/neuter/return program. Trap/neuter/return, or T/N/R as it is also referred to, is coordinated through the Street Cat Coalition, a non-profit affiliate of Colorado Animal Rescue.
Live Trap Rental Policies
Private citizens who are willing to offset the cost of spaying or neutering feral cats are welcome to rent live traps to assist in the T/N/R process. Please note, funds in the Street Cat Coalition are always extremely limited, so volunteer trappers must coordinate with the Street Cat Coalition and/or CARE before taking trapped cats in for surgery.
Traps will be signed out as available. The shelter must always have a few traps on hand, so please call first to ensure a trap will be available to rent. CARE will obtain your name, phone number, etc., and requires a $25.00 deposit, refunded when you return the trap. The traps themselves are very expensive, so it is critical that all traps be returned to CARE in a timely manner and without damage. CARE staff will show you how to set the trap and discuss some tips for trapping.
Remember, trapping is not an exact science – stories of trapped skunks or marmots or the neighbor’s cat are not unheard of! You are borrowing a trap to use entirely at your own risk. Feral cats are potentially dangerous, and should not be dealt with carelessly, nor in the same fashion as a domesticated cat.
