Current Volunteer Opportunities

Cookie

Colorado Animal Rescue offers a variety of sheduled and non-scheduled activities to our volunteers. For more information on any of these opportunities, please contact us at (970) 947-9173.

Morning Cleaning Cat Kennels

This is a scheduled position from 8:00 am to 10:00 am Tuesday through Sunday. This job may include cleaning cat kennels, scooping and cleaning litter pans, feeding, washing food bowls, and laundry.

Morning Cleaning Dog Kennels

This is a scheduled position from 8:00 am to 10:00 am Tuesday through Sunday. This job may include cleaning and scrubbing dog runs, "poop patrol," feeding, washing food bowls and toys, and laundry. After feeding, all dogs must go outside again for the second time for exercise, human companionship, and to maintain housetraining.

Socialization

Some cats come into the shelter fearful, timid, and shy. This behavior is often a result of poor socialization and little to no handling. Volunteers show the animal the world in a controlled and supportive manner and encourage normal behaviors. This is also a wonderful time to play with and exercise the cats and kittens. This position does not need to be scheduled; please stop by during shelter hours.

Dog Walking

The dogs need exercise, human companionship, and a change of scenery. If you are planning a hike or a snowshoe trek, think about how fun it would be to have a dog with you! You are also able to walk the dogs around the facility, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The dogs in the shelter are stressed and getting exercise is a great way to relieve some of the frustrations of being in a kennel. This is a scheduled position and the best time for this job is after 10:00 am. During the hot summer months it is best to walk the dogs in the morning.

Animal Bathing & Grooming

Dogs and cats sometimes come to us very dirty and matted. Keeping animals clean and pretty makes them feel better and makes them more adoptable. This is not a scheduled position; you can be a pet beautician anytime during shelter hours.

Foster Care Provider

Foster care removes the animal from the shelter for a specified length of time. Foster homes are needed for a variety of reasons - ill or injured animals, kittens that are too young for adoption, pregnant cats that need a place to deliver their young, or a stressed animal that needs a break away from the shelter. This is a very important job and a separate application process is required.

Special Events

This is a scheduled position and the volunteer may contact our Volunteer Coordinators. CARE participates in many community events and our volunteers are needed to help transport animals, assist with supplying information to the public, assisting with the animals, attending the event, coordinating the event with other volunteers and staff, marketing, and promoting.

Data Entry and Filing

This is a scheduled position and the volunteer may contact our Administrative Assistant, at (970) 947-9173 Ext. 10. General administrative work includes assisting our Administrative Assistant with data entry and filing.

Training

This is a scheduled position and the volunteer may contact Tracey Yajko, our Shelter Trainer, at (970) 947-9173 Ext. 13. Dogs are more adoptable if they have a few manners. This is a great job for someone that has interest in dog training. Pick a dog and stick with them for a couple weeks and teach them how to sit, lie down, and wait. Or take them to a 1-day a week training class. It gets them out of the shelter and they get to learn something too. It is so rewarding to watch a dog learn something new!

Feral Cat Trap/Neuter/Return Program

Help trap feral cats on specific days and transport them to our facility or a local veterinary clinic as required. Keep them confined overnight while they recover and return them for release after they are spayed or neutered.
