Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig!

 In featured

March is National Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month!

In 2023, we helped find homes for 14 guinea pigs (and so far this year, we’ve found homes for 3 guinea pigs!). These small and gentle companions can make a great first pet or addition to most families. When considering adopting a guinea pig, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Where should you get a guinea pig?

Adopt a guinea pig from C.A.R.E. or another animal welfare organization (like Journey Home Animal Care Center or Denver Dumb Friends League)!

  • How much time are you willing to commit?

Guinea pigs need love and attention everyday! The longer haired critters (i.e. Peruvian guinea pigs) require extra grooming, and all need their nails trimmed regularly. While their cage requires a weekly cleaning, you may need to spot-clean every few days.

  • Do you know if you’re allergic?

It’s not simple to determine this but think about guinea pig bedding, for example. If you know you have hay or wood chip allergies then you may want to reconsider.
