Do You Know About the Animal Protection Fund?

 In News

The Division of Animal Welfare (DAW) is launching the “Animal Protection Fund,” a new initiative that allows Coloradans to voluntarily donate a portion (or all) of their tax refund to support animal welfare. These funds will be essential in helping the DAW assist shelters and animal control organizations across the state during large cruelty cases, natural disasters and other emergencies.

By donating a portion of your Colorado tax refund to the Animal Protection Fund, you are providing critical support for pets and livestock during natural disasters and emergencies. These funds also help maintain stable resources for vulnerable animals. To contribute, simply fill out Form DR 0104CH when filing your taxes (see #16 on page 2!).

The above graphic from the Colorado Department of Agriculture outlines how the Animal Protection Fund supports animal welfare through voluntary tax refund contributions. It highlights four key areas:

  • Voluntary Contribution: It offers taxpayers a simple way to donate to a cause they support while filing state income taxes.
  • Emergency & Crisis Support: Funds go directly to caring for pets and livestock during emergencies and crises.
  • Assistance for Vulnerable Animals: The fund aids government and nonprofit animal welfare groups and shelters.
  • Stable Funding: It ensures long-term resources for a safer future for vulnerable animals.
